The Space Warrior’s Journey: An Artist’s Reflection

Not all of my art has deep meaning—some pieces exist simply for the joy of creation. But this particular painting holds a special significance.

The space warrior, encased in an astronaut helmet, gazes out into the vastness, longing to find those who understands them. Growing up, I often felt like I came from another planet. Unlike Superman, I had no special powers to justify my sense of otherness—just an overwhelming feeling that everyone else had life figured out while I was left stumbling through social interactions, awkward and clumsy.

The fish in this painting are swimming through space, fish out of water, displaced from where they belong. She follows them, drawn to their journey because she, too, feels like she doesn’t quite fit in and isn’t yet at home.

Most of my art is a one-time exploration except for the maze head series but thats more character than an idea, but this piece I feel could birth a new series, artists have revisited themes and motifs; Matisse created multiple versions of Blue Nude, for example. Perhaps I’ll attempt another version of this piece, maybe with robotic suits for the fish. Of course, “The Simpsons did it,” as South Park humorously pointed out, and I can’t help but wonder if an fish in a scuba suit already exists somewhere in pop culture.

With time and growth, my skills have evolved. If I revisit this piece, will my improvements enhance or diminish the raw emotion it carries? Like other artists who are known for waves or nature, some of my paintings may expand into their own universes (pun intended) and become multiple entries into this message and idea.

Daydreaming of a new world—do you ever find yourself lost in such thoughts? Wondering what would save us from destroying ourselves and one another? This painting is still available, along with professionally photographed and produced prints. I’m considering adding resin or a self-leveling finish to enhance the brushstrokes for artist-enhanced prints. What do you think—would that elevate the experience? Would this be an option you’d like to see?

Have you ever wondered who you were and where your tribe/people were?
