Original Buddha in Water-Soluble Ecoline Pens with Rain Drips – A Symbol of Peace
By Artist Chris Shopland, in a Bespoke Professional Frame

Description:

This artwork, created with water-soluble Ecoline pens, features a Buddha enriched by the unintended addition of rain drips during transport. The rain blends organically into the image, enhancing its serene and contemplative quality, adding new layer of texture, intrigue etc.

I rarely depict spiritual or religious symbols, preferring to avoid clichés and overfamiliar motifs. However, this piece emerged during 2020—a time of global unrest, with riots and wars coinciding with the pandemic. The collective passion for activism, while admirable, often felt paradoxical as it prolonged lockdowns and amplified feelings of isolation. At the same time, the beginning of the Ukraine war intensified a sense of global unease, which is continuing to this day :(.

This Buddha was born from these reflections—a desire to project peace amid chaos. While art cannot directly change the world, it can inspire. For its future owner, this piece may serve as a reminder of inner calm and a peaceful approach to life. Or perhaps it will simply bring joy through its vivid colours and moments of meditative beauty.
