Large Giclee print of Patchwork wolf by Bristol based artist Chris Shopland
"Patchwork Wolf"
This is a Giclée print of Patchwork Wolf, my very first original painting to sell back in 2019. The original was a 24 × 30-inch acrylic and oil painting, and it holds a special place in my heart. It was created over an older oil and ink piece from 6 years prior, and if you look closely, you can still see hints of that earlier work showing through. I didn’t need much coverage to coax the image out—it almost seemed to emerge on its own seeing the edges of where the eyes would be. That’s part of why it has such an unusual, slightly warped perspective and colours. Is it a wolf, a dog, or something else entirely? Even I’m not sure - I was going for wolf, but I love the mystery, and clearly, others do too.
This print is nearly the same size as the original, with a 60 × 48 cm print area on 66 × 54 cm premium 300gsm expressions photo matte archival paper. It’s sealed in cellophane with a hard backing to keep it safe until ready to frame and hang. At a fraction of the cost of the original which is now valued at £500-750—it’s a wonderful way to own and enjoy Patchwork Wolf.
This piece is special to me, not just for being my first sale but for how it came together so naturally, I have forgotten what it felt like to create and so it feels like another artist created it and I can enjoy it for its own merit. It’s always exciting to share Patchwork wolf with others in a way that’s as close to the original as possible.
